Piccadilly, nine o'clock. Lights glowing under the glass roof, marble cool underfoot. Whisky and cardamom as the shop door swings open, jasmine drifting from a florist's doorway. Somewhere a worn leather jacket hangs on the back of a chair, with a trace of smoke still clinging to the collar.
